My goodness. Our government has gone completely bonkers! While the police are busy trying to get guns out of circulation, 1,619 assorted firearms collected in the North Rift alone, the government wants to give private security firms the right to carry guns!
Are you completely nuts? Can you imagine watchies with AKs?! Which cartoon thought this one up? What happens when Fred “tutaweka mudavadi tyre” Gumo registers his “security firm” six months before the election? Imagine a chief with four cops trying to keep peace in a constituency where all the local big wig politicians have 20 armed “campaigners”? Imagine how many guns one street in Muthiaga would have!
But hey we should worry as the government would like to reassure us that they are not mad and have included a safe guard. “The minimum entry will be possession of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.” Pass your exams, own a gun! Imagine the rock throwing student battalion moonlighting as security guards. Then imagine the next cops-v- students clash. Nice eh!
And you think cops will stand for private security firms owning bigger guns than them? Hell no. Next on Kenyan streets cops with M16s. Beau-ti-ful!

saw the burning of the guns on tv.
somebody: what about the harm that is doing to the air? aren’t there really other ways of getting rid of those guns.
me: i find it more important that all those guns are not available for potentially dangerous individuals.
and now this!!
what a shame!
I also thought so until i spent some time in Ug. For some reason it works here like poetry — the place is amazingly safe.
North Uganda (Kony’s hood) is another story altogether
i disagree with you about arming private security firms. Being a victim of home invasion, about two years ago about 30 armed men came to my parents house and demaded that they open or else they will set the cars on fire. They stole everything even bedsheets. But since my parents hired private security firm it been very safe. Their respond time is 7 minutes better than most police here in the USA. I think it is a good idea for them to collect and sign for the guns with the police at the begining of the shift and return them at the end of the shift.
Obviously the anti-gun author is stupid and British!!! I am a happy gun owning American where there are plenty of guns. What a paradise!!! A land in which I have a right to self defense and gun ownership. I own hand guns and assault rifles. I also have concealed carry permits for 3 different states.
What I always find interesting is that one can always compare a territory with extreme gun control laws to a jurisdiction that does not. In every case that I know of there is less crime in the territory with no gun control and citizens that are packing. Wonder why that is?
Furthermore, where I live security officers are armed and they can make lawfull arrests on private property. It actually works rather well. Maybe the world should stop listening to the monachy from the UK and embrace personal responsiblity for ones own security, like in the USA.
