constitutional referendum media watch

in Kenya

The Daily Nation says:

The rallies, both well-attended and characterised by song, dance, colour and excitement, went on without ugly incidents.

Reuters says:

A final rally in Nairobi on Saturday by foes of the new constitution was markedly bigger than a rival public gathering of the “Yes” camp. But Kibaki’s aides deny the difference in turnout had any significance … The raucous opposition gathering drew an estimated 30,000 supporters, against 12,000 for the government event.

Of course there is no way The DN failed to see that one rally had more than double the attendees of the rival rally. But The DN chose to ignore it. If they have decided which side their bread is buttered on why not just come out in support officially?

The problems are not just at the DN however. At the EA Standard I found
three
articles on the “Yes” rally but not a single article on the better attended “No” rally. I hope they carried some articles in the hard copies of the paper.

By using KBC TV for campaign speech on Sunday on Sunday Kibaki confirmed his contempt of the law and Electoral Commission of Kenya regulations continues. How can there be any more doubt that the man feels he is above the law?

It is not all bad at the Nation Centre however, they have special referendum website where you can follow all the breaking news and results.

Nation and Standard need to quit playing. We expect more from them, especially since they are the most visible around the world. shame on them, trying to get all foxxy on us.

keguro said it well in one of his sample of unpublished letters to the nation:

“under moi, we used to laugh at the kenya times.
“under kibaki, we laugh at the daily nation.”

what, did they think that we wouldn’t read between the lines? sigh.
