Zuma has lost it

in Africa,AIDS

Sometimes I read a story which is so ridiculous I feel it must be false that I go away and check later expecting a retraction by the news source. But instead of being retracted I find that the stupidity has increased, that is what I am going through now.

South African ex-Deputy President Jacob Zuma said he showered after sex with an HIV-positive woman, thinking this would reduce his risk of being infected … Mr Zuma’s testimony that he did not use a condom during the encounter, despite knowing the woman was HIV-positive, caused dismay among local Aids activists.

Honestly how do you deal with that now? A shower to prevent AIDS? How do you deal with that? Especially when you considered that Zuma at one time headed the South African government’s National Aids Council and the Moral Regeneration Campaign in his role as VP. As in he was the number 1 guy in the fight against AIDS. I walked away thinking this was obviously a false story. Only to bump into this today:

“Why would a man who could be the future president of this country be prepared to take this risk (of contracting HIV)?” state advocate Charin de Beer asked Zuma.

“I had made a decision at that time. I knew the risk that I was facing, but I believed it was small,” Zuma said.

This is madness is scary. A small risk? What the hell? Consider for a moment this man was a heartbeat away from the South Africa presidency.

And we haven’t even talked about his excuses for the alleged rape.

“She had never in the past come to my house dressed in a skirt. Including times when I was living in Pretoria. When she came to me in a skirt after those talks I referred to earlier on, well, it told me something,” he said.

Well.

When I read this story 2 nights ago, I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or tear my hair out in anger/frustration. To think that this guy was leader of the SA AIDS commission just frightens the hell out of me. Images of public edcation campaigns advocating for showers after sex as a safeguard against HIV are just too much for my poor mind…

this is almost as bad as believing that if you have sex standing up you won’t get pregnant … wait, this is far worse. dude used to head the national aids council and showering was in his list of things to do after having sex with someone who was hiv positive? sigh.

and since when does short skirt+texted kisses, hugs, love=need for sex? that is wrong on so many levels it boggles the mind. arrgh! i’m off to go and calm down.

In this day and age and a man of such status U would think he would know a thing or two about HIV !!!
And the saddest part is the victim is under police protection coz peeps are after her like shes the one who perpetrater of the crime !!!
We have a long way to go …

SA wanna be president….. Still cant fathom the fact that a grown ass man can honestly say that he took a shower after sex with a Infected person and expect not to be infected. What is the world coming to? Is he encouraging men in SA that is ok to do it and take a shower or hey if she wears a mini then its on !!!
Remember this is the country where a 2 months old babygal was defiled by 3 men in the belief that it will cure them of AIDS
Jesus! you can imagine what will go down now with Zuma’s revealation.
Rape is serious dude that psyoanalysts can explain but stupidity is unforgiveable esp for such a man- a leader!

“Zumagate” higlights the level of denialism that has made SA a country with one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the world, but we should also like at the look at the silver lining and that is he has unwittingly become the biggest asset to the aids campaign in SA.

You know, I’ve been following this story with….. I don’t know what the emotion is.

To think that there are Zuma supporters (EH??) who spend all day outside the courtroom chanting in his support, and hurling abuses at the victim.

I stopped trying to make sense of it a long time ago.

And Zuma, walks out of the courtroom every day, proud as a peacock, singing old liberation songs, ati “Give me a gun”.

African leaders. African voters. I tell you, its just depressing.
