I agree about the 'rallying around the sporting flag' and saw that sort of scenario at the recently concluded San Diego Sevens tournament. The couple of hundred Kenyans in attendance, were amazing and were there as Kenyans first and they banded together with the flag. It was a great statement that we can still be Kenyans with no issues ans support the country. i saw some t shirts with 'I belong to a tribe called Kenya' and it was one of the best vibes at the stadium.

You took the thought right out of my mind! Nowhere is the unifying power of football more evident than in my country Nigeria. This time we were unified in our disappointment in a team that showed neither the flair nor desire that we pride ourselves in...BUT that is the story for another day.

Yes, sports and sportsmen are an important, underutilised "weapon" for peace in our continent. Although he lost the elections in Liberia, George Weah showed the power of sports personalities.

These guys themselves often leave school very early and spend substantial parts of their lives on pitches... not thinking politics. We need to show them the power they have and help them channel this into demands for peace.

Imagine the message it would send if all the long-distance runners Kenya is so well known for would line the streets of Nairobi and challenge those fighting to "kill" them first! Imagine what a response that would get around the world....

Just a thought....

Congrats to Egypt and good work Bro!

Firstest!

Also, problem. The national team(s) had better be good - or, at the very least, useful. Apart from athletics, Kenya's teams are neither.
