Sinister

oh oh … after last night’s rant (below) it seems that things are not as clear cut as i thought they were.
some sinister is lurking here. According to The Guardian there is a bit of quid pro quo going on here.

Under International Olympic Comittee rules, an athlete who intends to change nationality cannot compete either for their mother country or their new one until a three-year residency period has been completed. When Wilson Kipketer, another Kenyan, wanted to compete for Denmark, he had to sit out three seasons before resuming his career.

Only with the consent of the mother country can the switch be made without delay, and something seems to have happened to persuade Kenya to allow Stephen Cherono to function as Saif Saeed Shaheen on behalf of Qatar - and in competition, of course, with Kenya’s own athletes in an event they have been used to dominating. That something, it is said, may have been a contribution to the renovation of a stadium and the building of a new all-weather track at Eldoret in north-west Kenya. Both countries have denied the existence of such an agreement.

well well well …

Go hang

Until a few moments ago I was in the camp that wished the best of luck to Shaheen as he went after the money. But after watching Saif Saeed Shaheen out sprint Ezekiel Kemboi and his bother Abraham Cherono to win the gold medal in the steeplechase I have defected as spectacularly as Gachoka jumped to Kanu.

Fuck that. He can go and eat a kilo of Qatar sand and Kenya immigration should send me to strip him of his passport.

BBC TV interviewed Moses Kiptanui before the race and the anger on the mans face spoke volumes. After all Kitanui is one of the guys who can claim justifiably that Kenya has never recognized his achievements but still for him it was all about the flag. The Kenyan flag.

On the bright side watching Kemboi fight him to the end, watching kemboi go in to the crowd and take the Kenyan flag with pride and walk in from of Shaheen now that was heart lifting. In that moment you realised how much running for Kenya means for these guys. The last time I saw such joy and pride in Kenya athletes to win for Kenya was when we finally beat Gebrselassie in Edmonton.
Shaheen can go and hang.

get real

Clare Short informed the Zimbabwean government in 1997 that the election of a Labour government “without links to former colonial interests” meant Britain no longer had “special responsibility to meet the cost of land purchases”, according to documents obtained by the Guardian .

It is double standards like these that ensure Africa will never trust the west especially the former colonialists. How the hell does this British government absolve itself of responsibility and agreements its predecessors signed up to? What the hell does she mean “without links to former colonial interests”? Especially when the agreements on Zimbabwe were heavily weighted in favour of the British. Fulfilling the pledge would be the least honourable Britain can do. It almost makes me sympathise with that clown Mugabe. These double standards have to stop. Imagine if Kibaki woke up tomorrow and said, “Kenya is not going to pay for any loans that were taken during Moi’s regime.” We would be thrown out on to our butts so quick. Since Short is so eager to distance herself from conservative governments then maybe she would like to pay back to the former colonies the money that the “greatest labour prime minister of them all, Atlee” used to re build the UK after World War II. Speaking of World War II, Britain never ever lets that story go. Its always, “we won the war”. The majority of history in schools over here is focused on how the “Germans were beaten”. If you want us to forget colonialism in Zimbabwe, a country that got independence after I was born, then these British clowns need to forget about WWII pretty quick.

worms

Last night we were hit by a irritating worm that hijacks your computer and shuts it down every two minutes. It triggers a popup message which comes up saying:

The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.”

I looked and looked around and couldn’t find anything but eventually I found some stuff that help and in the spirit of a friendly net community I’ll share it with you.

First of all if you have a broadband or any other always on internet connection then you are as vulnerable as a baby bottom. Joab Jackson breaks it down.
Not scared yet? Then scan your ports and see where you can be hit.
ok now that you are shit scared and now know that I can access your computer then check out FAQ at JSI on how to fix it.
Basically you need to install a patch from Microsoft. That will close up your ports to any intruders. This patch is labelled critical. I.E do it NOW or else your comp will die a slow horrible death at the hands of a 14 year old wannabe hacker. Once you’ve installed the patch the switch your firewall in Windows XP on or if you do not have Windows XP get a then get a free one from the net. I use Sygate. That will give you some more protection and protection is good. Now that your system is secure then delete the little bugger that started all of this. Its called W32.Blaster.Worm

There you go. A good days work! Now who said i don’t care about you.

one-oh-oh

The big one-oh-oh, one hundred

degrees, I know its not big news for most of ya’ll but over here it’s dominated all the front pages in a way stuff like Gulf War Two

never did. 30%c is a national event over here so 100%f sparked spontaneous chaos on the railway, sex on the beach, madness on

the motorways and fear amongst the tree huggers (oh no the world is heating up everything is gonna melt and we are all gonna

drown in the next 100 years.) for the rest of us, another dress down week at work and the sadistic joy of seeing bookies lose a bundle!

update: Not surprisingly weather website are having their best season proving, yet again, that everyone in Britain talks about the weather.

mad mad world

Damn these white guys are crazy, damn these black guys are crazy

I like the line, “Because it had been cooked, it could not be established whether it was from a human or an animal.” Can you imagine all these doctors sitting around poking it and arguing like,

“Definitely buffalo”,

“Oh hell no that’s definitely human”
“Looks more like a rhino to me”
“Well a very small rhino or a very happy guy”

As for the other two guys, garlic, salt and pepper and still it wasn’t tasty? Take a hint, guys, take a hint.

i’ll be back

The more inquisitive amongst you would have noticed that I have been quite quiet for a while. Well no more. It’s all done and dusted and now it’s on! So you can’t quit bitching in the back.

Well whats new? Manchester Jazz Festival was off the hook. Good tunes, good company, good weather. (This is beginning to sound like one of those “my life is brilliant and am going to tell you every little thing about it” blogs which is whack so I better stop and go back to making noise.)

Shout outs to Doobs and Cunninglinguist who kept me amused throughout my sabbatical.
As for the rest of you, next time I decide to go for a break quit bitching at me and go over spend sometime with them aiight!
