Nairobi Show pictures

As promised I have posted some of my Nairobi Show pictures online. I was taking pictures of the stalls, and cars and one heck of a massive tractor. Other highlights include, Mr and Mrs El Presidente rolling in their drop top jeep, and that cow carrying what looks like 100 litres of milk, a guy getting his eyesight tested and a wall full of womens’ underwear (well that is a highlight for me!)

The full flickr set is here. Jienjoy.
Oh and the presidential motorcade, walalala. That’s another blog post in itself. (No pictures. Taking pictures of the presidential motorcade is illegal.)
The Electoral Commission of Kenya stall was very informative. Yet another blog post!

Those are fantastic pictures! They have taken me way back to my primo school days when we would take a day off from school (usually Fridays) to attend the show with Mathe, Auntie, my siblings and cousins. I used to love it! My kid bro would always get lost and we would spend a frantic hour or two looking for him. The highlight for me was eating the farmer’s choice sausages and hotdogs.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I agree with Ciiku. Those pics definitely took me back…thanks!

This is an aside; If taking pictures of the presidential motorcade is illegal. Does this extend to filming too? Or does this law only apply to wanainchi and not regular journalists?
Just wondering….

Is it a real law that taking pics of the motrcade is illegal or something someone made up?

Remember njonjo’s silly & stupid “treason to even dream of the prezzie’s death” comment… During moi’s era that would mean MOST Kenyans committed treason!

Great memories! It’s been a while since I was home, how long have the Electronic voting machines been used?

for all the memory laners - your welcome. I had a lot of fun walking around taking the pictures.
@African and VVS - you are not allowed to take pictures of the motorcade but what they really really hate is anyone taking pictures of the presidential limo. (if you can find the Madd Madd World from two weeks ago, Mado suggested that they wrap the limo in blankets when it is going around town so we cant see it :-) ) From what i understand only the PPS (presidential press service) is allowed to film or take pictures of the motorcade which they may or may not share with the newsrooms.
I’m writing a post of the motorcade which will be up soon.
@Erickarn - the electronic voting machines are not yet in use. They need an Act of Parliament first and intensive testing before that happens. they will definately NOT be used in 2007. Maybe 2012 if all goes well.

So, did you get your goggles at last?

Why is a diplomatic convoy being escorted by a Police Toyota Prado + motorbike as early as 9 am in downtown (jamed) Nairobi? I thought about blogging this but then….thx for the hint.

I guess even empty convoys will be escorted by the police just to make it clear that these limos always have the right of way (as we’ve learned in driving school).

Nice pics!!

@Msk - si you said you’d hook me up?!

@JKE - yeah! what the hell was all that about? We had three on our route. at first i thought it was prince edward but the diplomatic plate were CD31 which embassy is 31 I wonder. The other two had GK cars and diplomatic cars no flags but out riders and heavily armed cops in a range rover.what the hell was all that about??!!

^^ maybe the Arthurs returned from their Dubai exile and needed some escort :-)

According to this list 31 CD = Sweden. I guess it was the new IKEA catalogue which was hurried to Statehouse. Rrrucy needs a new rolling pin (they are good, I also have one from Ikea!).
