Wewe JKE I blame you! After reading your post I went and faithfully upgraded to WordPress 2.1.1 on Friday and then today I read this:
Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.
Now I’ve just spent around 2 hours upgrading all over again! (I have the slowest FTP in the world. It’s enough to make me switch to Fantastico auto installs!) If WordPress 2.1.3 comes out this week, I will sell my computer and move to Bungoma and farm bananas for the rest of my days bila internet I tell you.
WordPress users, do the necessary with your installations to ensure your blog is secure.
On a slightly related note, is anyone else have problems accessing WordPress.com and blogs hosted on WordPress.com? Haven’t been able to view the site for a couple of days now.

Been on and off wordpress regularly all week. You probably need to check your provider.

Yeah, saw the message to upgrade to 2.1.2. earlier this week. Fantastico has not yet added the upgrade on cPanel and I am not sure I want to do the upgrading myself - my blog went kablooey the last time I attempted this! I think we should learn not to upgrade just because WP is telling us to and I am thinking I should have stayed with 1.5

…and if my blog goes kablooey again, can I join you in Bungoma?

Madame Mshairi, If you upgraded to 2.1.1 a while ago you should be fine. It is only since around Friday when the problems started. wait for fantastico, if you do it manually you will have to continue with manual updates forever. In fact I am thinking of removing my blog and reinstalling it with fantastico for upgrade purposes.
Spyce - i’ve tried on a couple of different networks but still can not access wordpress.com or any blogs hosted therein. I do not think it is an ISP problem. Unless the Kenyan authorities have blocked WordPress.com. Hmmmm let me go check.

thought the wordpress.com issue was local , seems like one provider had run-ins with bgp and ended up advertising networks wrongly on KIXP . talks are underway to have them resolve this as some of our alter egos cant hold it any longer . they need to blog !

Thanks for the inside story Maitha. I cant believe someone went and messed about with BGP and I wonder how long it will take KIXP to sort this out. Who is blocking the access, KIXP? Can’t the ISP in question just withdraw from using KIXP services or can’t KIXP just block that one ISP? Hmmm there must be something I do not understand here. I may have to fly down to coast you tell me over a cold pineapple juice (si its something crazy like 34 degrees c hukos?)

Hmmm. Kenyan Analyst had queried this very same situation last night as he was unable to access his WordPress blog. You are not alone, KA!
@maitha. LOL re: the alter egos!
