Kibaki steals the election then attacks democracy - Kenyan Election 2007
Sunday, December 30th, 2007 at 8:34 PM
The symbolism could not be greater. Five years ago as Kenya celebrated the election of a democratically elected President Kibaki Uhuru Park in central Nairobi was full to the brim as over a million Kenyans came together in song and jubilation to witness the swearing in of their new president. Today, as Nairobi burns with the anger of a democratic vote disregarded and stolen by a now illegitimate “President” Kibaki, in a quickly rushed ceremony broadcast without any warning Kibaki was sworn in as president in front of the cabinet the Kenyan electorate rejected so emphatically. 5 years ago, a million plus Kenyans applauded and cheered, today a political dinosaurs such as Nyachae and Kombo clapped as they tried to outdo each other in showing their loyalty and eagerness to please in the hope that after being rejected by the electorate they would give a lifeline into parliament as nominated MPs.
I do not blame him. There is no way Kibaki can face the Kenyan public at Uhuru Park. No way. By hiding in StateHouse behind his security detail Kibaki confirms that he is a virtually a prisoner in his own country forever destined to interact with Kenyans behind a living jail cell of men in black suits armed to the teeth.
Meanwhile Kenya is toppling over the edge. Kibera is on fire. I passed a collection of police lorries collecting near the City Mortuary round about all the cops dressed in full riot gear waiting for the situation to calm down before they moved in. Along Ngong Road past Jamhuri park groups of people have started gathering around corners. Everyone is waiting. The whole place is like a gas cylinder awaiting a flint to set it off. In Kibera it has already gone off, from Kakamega I hear reports of houses burning, the same in Kapsabet.
Now Kibaki’s team shows its true colours. Just as ODM were about to give a live press conference they were suddenly taken off air. 10 minutes later Nation TV announce that the Minister for Internal Security, Michuki, has banned all live broadcasts. Kibaki in his rushed inauguration speech said he wants to come together as brothers and sisters for national unity. What an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans. Strangely Kibaki supporters have already started peddling the old excuse, that he does not know the draconian measures his ministers are taking. WHAT? The man was sworn in an hour ago and you say he already doesn’t know what is going on? Is this the democratic space Kibaki keeps talking about?
Meanwhile Kibera burns and people loose their lives. Because one old man and his cronies refused to believe Kenyans have rejected them.

Shame on Kenya!!!!!!
Shame on Kibaki and shame on mocking the civil rights of 41 tribes! I have never been this mad on a process, it was flawed, rigged and not credible - Kibaki trampled on the same people that elected him when he was confined to a wheel chair!
Just utter disbelief -

kenya will never be the same again. if they think they will gain anything by clinging to power illigimately, then so be it. but, its obviously very clear that we know who stands to loss more in the process. na kazi iendeele.

i dont know what to believe but im open to all possibilities - though i think we are getting only one side of whetver is going on. i think there is porcess in place to deal with this issues but instead the process has been replaced by the press. so regardless of the outcome i dont see. anything positive. i personally had predicted a kibaki win and opposition refusal to accept. i think when a lie is repeated to often it becomes the truth … page one from hitlers playbook.
even if the results are reversed raila has accused so many
people of so many things we are in a state of cognitive disonance.
The problem in kenya is that everyone only listens to those they agree with. thin k for a minute all the complainants seem to be non kikuyus is it that all the kikuyus have taken an oath
of silence - i just dont believe that.
now given that there is a process in place of counting and verifying votes with a way to dispute and recount at the centers. either all the agenst for the different candidates were compromised or untrained or icompetent.
on the other hand our election is not without precedent mexico had the same scenario paly out last year and they survived

hi i am kenyan very much advanced on the tribal lines , but i tend to idsagree with Joe’s statement that expected kibaki win how and where on earth do one win with two provises , if all the legitimate registered voters of the said proviveses are counted do they really amount to the scored votes by kibaki , kibaki needs a clen win in five provises to be sworn in as the president ofwhich it proved clearly that he no mandate of kenyan’s he should therefore be the provincial commisionor of the said provises interegrated into one .
this is a sad thing for the common citizen’s since if the president can openly steal the votes the ECk and how much money can he still unnoticed , and how will that boast the FDI’s in Kenya , i am well travelled kenyan , when you approach most potential FDI’s investors to invest in kenya the thing you hear from them is that tell your president and his ministers to stop corruption. where on earth did so called stupied ECK chairman got those figures from.
kenya is still going to be left behind such kind of leadership , the said president could hardly read a well written speech too old and weak . Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameeeeeeeeeee kenya Saaaaaaame our kids futures

I can’t believe this is Kenya for 5 years under Kibaki we emphatically voted out, I can’t believe to see the arrogance of Mungatana, Michuki, Martha and Kikuyus around Kibaki for another 5 years. God have mercy on Kenya and Deliver us! AMEN.
