ODM plan rival inaguration - Kenya Election 2007 Uncertainty grips Kenya – Kenya Election 2007

Raila arrested, Ruto shot? - Kenyan Election 2007

Sunday, December 30th, 2007 at 10:41 PM

Latest from a source within the ODM camp (unverified)

Raila and Ruto arrested after the press conference where they announced the alternative inauguration for tomorrow morning. They were taken to hospital by the security forces to be “treated for shock”. Message went on to say that Ruto had been shot but not fatally.

Planning an alternative inauguration can be interpreted as treason which would explain the security forces heavy approach (if this is true). During the press conference Raila introduced an army Major who stated that the armed forces are behind Raila. Our military is divided.

This is unverified. It is from a source who has been credible thus far.

Previous we had heard that Raila was “under the care of the army for his own safety” and that Raila would spend the night at the US Embassy due to concerns about his safety.

Please provide any further updates on this story… We are depending on Blogs now that local media has been shutdown for public safety.

Hiding in the embassy of the nation that wants the people to accept the “official” result?! Please, somebody tell me I am hallucinating!

Awaiting verification… which is difficult given the current lockdown on media in Kenya. Makes you wonder if Kibaki et al are looking for an excuse for civil war…or genocide.

  • 4. Karanja  |  December 31st, 2007 at 2:50 am

despite all the ills the kibaki administration has been accused of in the past few days. locking down the media cannot be one of them. Any comments by the opposition would surely only make people more annoyed at the outcome of the rigged election. If for a moment we can only assume that the election wasn’t rigged ( i however am sure it was) then this is a legitimate attempt to control the violence.

THIS VIOLENCE CANNOT E CONTROLLED FROM WITHIN RIGH NOW
I AM URGING ALL KENYANS IN THE DIASPORA TO GANG UP
AND TELL THE WORLD TO COME TO OUR AID BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
IN THE END JUSTICE MUST…AND I REPEAT ..MUST PREVAIL AT ALL COST.

For the sake of peace lets stop butchering each other two wrongs cannot make a right.
Normal mwananchi has no hatred but our leaders are disappointing us.
If we had hate we could have fought before election or at polling stations but we voted together.
I LOVE KENYA and value the peace RAILA thanks for your courage KIBAKI please just be a MAN about it

Unbelievable! This was the most rigged elections! Now, they’ve increased tension in the country by the arrest of Raila and Ruto. Can someone send a chopper to pick me up to unknown destination, can’t stand this any longer!

  • 14. concerned  |  December 31st, 2007 at 7:49 am

You can still get to Orys blog through Technorati as it is an aggregator….if they do block it, where will we go next. Maybe she should set up an alternative server incase.
I can get on it again now. Not sure about leaving comments though. Will try again.

Rally has been banned and media still out. Shameful election for Kenya.

it’s a shame that the ECK announced doctored results. shame on Kivuitu and his commisioners. if Kibaki had won fairly, people would have been disappointed but not militant. now that he has shown that he will hold onto power whatever the cost, the time for his administration has come to an end.

i really wonder what he and his cronies, Moi included, have to hide. Kenyans have decided, ‘mzee’ should just accept it.

Kibaki has set us back 20 years. Kazi iendelee indeed!

we will truly have an Orange Revolution.

Every poll lately has had Raila winning. Kibakis Cabinet has been ousted. Most returns had Raila winning. Most returns from Kibakis stronghold aka kikuyu land were delayed notwithstanding its proximity to Nairobi. North Eastern Province a region that voted largely ODM voted for Kibaki? Kibakis stronghold had returns exceeding the number of registered voters i e 115%. Who can convince me that only two tribes send Kibaki back to State House? Let me say this in some very categorical terms, Kenya belongs to all Kenyans and no amount of rigging is going to change this reality. Kibaki cannot rule people who have thrown out his cabinet, including him, by force. Kenyans will not allow this. Kibaki is not my President. By the way I am not a LUO either. Raila won the elections..

10 steps forward, 1000 steps backwards.
If Kibaki and his gangsters knew what they were purchasing at the expense of the blood of the people of Kenya, would they still proceed in the course they have chosen?
Their resolve clearly shows that they would, they dont care.
This had been planned out and nothing was going to derail them.
Not the truth, not shame, not exposure- nothing. They would expose their corrupt ways and tell Kenyans to stuff up.
how does one negotiate with a thief?

  • 19. Alessandro  |  December 31st, 2007 at 3:37 pm

0 steps forward, 1 million steps backward.

Especially since the US officials publicly announce that they, once again, support a dictatorship in favour of democracy. What people around the world must know is that one person would have brought change to that: Barack Obama. Vote for change 2008!

  • 20. Philip Nzioki  |  December 31st, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Finally Kibaki has thrown kenyan democracy through the window. Why did we have to vote if the Government was to rig the elections? Kenyans are not fools and Kibaki, Moi and company should know we shall hate them to their graves for putting Kenya in bad books demicratically. Worse still Moi was and is better than Kibaki his student

  • 21. Winnie  |  December 31st, 2007 at 7:56 pm

This is too bad that the currently is degrading into violence the way it is right now, but we must blame it on our leaders, for instance raila announced he had won even before the elections were over, and this alluded any results the eck would announce favouring his opponents were fradulent, Even if the elections were rigged,This is no excuse for the kind of violence being meted out on kenyans, I don’t care which tribe is being meted out against, all are kenyans., raila’s remark makes him liable of treason, and am sure the U. S govt cannot shelter him after saying those remarks, they will simply be breaking international laws. I hope the news that he has been arrested are not false for if it was propaganda it will only spread further violence, i hope the military does their job without killing innocent kenyans. It is a shame that raila is prepared to take kenya into the brink of civil war because of his thirst for power, he should seek another avenue instead of threatening for a coup, The leaders should be acting wisely but not emotional. Even if nothing is done now, we can always wait for 2012 for a truly young generation of newly bred and clean cut young leaders who are untatited and are willing to usher Kenya into the developed world without forfeiting any tribe of kenya, but are willing to bring true development to kenya through just, legal and well meant manners that will not alienate any part of the country. I pray that through all this God will protect Kenya from the constant plans of the Devil to bring this country to Ruin.

    Is this really true?
Sadly foreign news are showing images of the looting and rioting. Surely politics is not young men running up and down, seemingly attacking everything in sight, and their uniformed compatriots beating back.
Raila was still on BBC yesterday…
